1941 marked a special chapter for Chevrolet. The automaker was making great strides in styling and adopting a more modern, refined, and upscale look. Of the more than one million vehicles produced by Chevrolet for the model year, only 2,045 of those were the luxurious Woodie Station Wagon – the most expensive vehicle in the Chevrolet’s lineup at that time – with a list price of $995. Amenities included wood grain dash and door tops, oak-slat headliner, luxurious upholstery, full carpeting, foot scraper-topped running boards, spot lamp, fog lights, floating globe compass, and attractive “shark tooth” hubcaps.
This gleaming Special Deluxe Station Wagon was acquired by the consignor from Stan Little near Palm Springs, California in 1995, and has won multiple awards, including Best of Show at the 2004 Santa Barbara Woodies Meet. It has benefited from an extensive restoration, which was recounted in the March 2006 issue of Woodie Times magazine. During the restoration, the frame was replaced due to corrosion issues and the engine was upgraded to a later unit, yielding slightly more horsepower. A host of local craftsmen were commissioned to assist in the wood, metal, paint, upholstery, and mechanical tasks required for this show-winning restoration. The results of this effort can be seen throughout the vehicle.
An ideal candidate for Woodie club events or just a leisurely drive to the beach, this fabulous Special Deluxe Woodie Station Wagon is sure to garner many future accolades and memorable adventures with its new custodians.
